MicroHexxy

With apologies to Lewis Carroll, but this is a
Jabberwocky I wrote in the 80’s …

‘Twas booting, and the floppy disks
Did read and write in their drives:
All paid-for were the microchips,
And the voices synthesized.

“Beware the MicroHex, my son!
The bits that byte, that files erase!
Beware the baudy bug, and shun
the ‘friendly’ interface!”

He took his plastic mouse in hand:
Long time with cursors help he sought –
So rested he in memory,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, while with windrous words he worked,
The MicroHex, with screen aflame,
Came glitching through the add-on board,
And prompted as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The dual drives went sil-icon!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went cursoring back.

“And hast thou killed the MicroHex?
Come to my keys, my binary boy!
O digitous day! Disk Spool! Display!”
He printed in his joy.

‘Twas booting, and the floppy disks
Did read and write in their drives:
All paid-for were the microchips,
And the voices synthesized.
